PED 100: Fundamentals of Fitness

Semester Hours 3

This lecture course covers the foundational principles of physical education and fitness. It examines the psychological and physiological impacts of exercise and fitness, including effects on the human skeleton, muscle development, respiration, and coordination. This course serves as an introduction to laboratory courses such as slimnastics, weight training, and conditioning. Additionally, the course may include fitness evaluation, development of personalized fitness programs, and engagement in fitness activities.

PED 103: Weight Training (Beginning)

Semester Hours 1

This course introduces the fundamentals of weight training. Emphasis is placed on developing muscular strength, endurance, and tone. Upon completion, students should be able to design and implement a personal weight-training program.

PED 104: Weight Training (Intermediate)

Semester Hours 1

This course covers advanced weight training techniques, focusing on achieving personal training goals while addressing the specific needs and interests of weight training. Upon completion, students will be able to develop and implement a personalized advanced weight-training program.

PED 106: Aerobics

Semester Hours 1

This course introduces a cardiovascular fitness program focused on continuous, rhythmic exercise. Emphasis is placed on developing cardiovascular efficiency, strength, flexibility, and safety precautions. Upon completion, students should be able to select and implement a rhythmic aerobic exercise program.

PED 118: General Conditioning (Beginning)

Semester Hours 1

This course offers an individualized approach to general conditioning through the five major components. Emphasis is placed on the scientific foundation for developing and participating in personalized physical fitness and conditioning programs. Upon completion, students should be able to design and implement an individualized physical fitness and conditioning program.

PED 119: General Conditioning (Intermediate)

Semester Hours 1

This course is an intermediate-level fitness and conditioning program class. Topics include specific exercises contributing to fitness and the role exercise plays in developing body systems. Upon completion, students should be able to implement and evaluate an individualized physical fitness and conditioning program.

PED 188: Yoga

Semester Hours 1

This course provides a basic introduction to yoga for beginners. Emphasis is placed on instruction in gentle stretching, breathing practices, progressive deep relaxation, and posture. Upon completion, students should be able to participate in and appreciate the benefits of the activity.

PED 200: Foundations of Physical Education

Semester Hours 3

This course examines the history, philosophy, and objectives of health, physical education, and recreation, with an emphasis on the physiological, sociological, and psychological aspects of physical education. It is required of all physical education majors.

PED 248: Varsity Basketball I

Semester Hours 1

This course covers advanced fundamentals of basketball. Emphasis is placed on skill development, knowledge of the rules, and basic game strategy. Upon completion, students should be able to participate in competitive basketball.

PED 249: Varsity Basketball II

This course covers advanced fundamentals of basketball. Emphasis is placed on skill development, knowledge of the rules, and basic game strategy. This course builds upon previous instruction and provides additional opportunities to develop skills. Upon completion, students should be able to participate in competitive basketball.

PED 250: Varsity Basketball III

PED 254: Varsity Softball I

Semester Hours 1

This course introduces fundamental skills and rules of softball. Emphasis is placed on proper techniques and strategies for playing softball. Upon completion, students should be able to play competitive softball.

PED 261: Varsity Baseball II

This course covers advanced baseball techniques. Emphasis is placed on refining skills and developing more advanced strategies and techniques. This course builds upon previous instruction and provides additional opportunities to develop skills. Upon completion, students should be able to play baseball at a competitive level.
