Medical Assisting: Phlebotomy

The Medical Assisting - Phlebotomy short certificate requires the student to complete fourteen (14) semester hours, thirteen (13) of which are in medical assisting coursework. This program will prepare students for work in acute care settings such as major hospital laboratories, minor emergency centers, and free-standing laboratories under the supervision of medical laboratory technologists or laboratory managers. The courses will provide both classroom and clinical experiences. Prior to completion of the Medical Assisting - Phlebotomy short certificate, students must complete a two hundred twenty-five (225) hour practicum in a medical setting. Prerequisites for MAT 239: Phlebotomy Practicum must be completed before students will be approved to register for MAT 239. Required enrollment in  MAT 228P: Medical Assistant CPT Review Course in conjunction with or following completion of MAT 239: Phlebotomy Practicum is essential to prepare for the Certified Clinical Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification exam.
