The Medical Assisting short certificate requires students to complete thirty (30) semester hours, of which twenty-nine (29) are in medical assisting coursework. This program prepares students for careers in the healthcare field by offering courses in both the clinical and administrative functions of a physician’s office. Before completing the medical assisting short certificate, students must complete two hundred twenty-five (225) hours of practicum in a medical setting. Prerequisites for MAT 229: Medical Assisting Practicum must be completed before students are approved to register for MAT 229. Enrollment in MAT 228R: Medical Assistant CCMA Review Course is required in conjunction with or following the completion of MAT 229: Medical Assisting Practicum to adequately prepare for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification exam.
