The Medical Assisting - Electronic Health Records Specialist short certificate requires the student to complete thirteen (13) hours of medical assisting coursework. This program is designed for students seeking employment in various physicians’ offices and healthcare organizations. Students will learn the principles of auditing patient records for compliance, performing basic coding to submit reimbursement claims, processing release of information requests for medical records, reviewing patient records to ensure completion and accuracy, collecting patient demographic and insurance information, and learning the proper communication skills to discuss patient information with physicians and insurance companies. Required enrollment in MAT 228H: Medical Assistant CEHRS - review course is essential to prepare for the Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) certification exam.
