This course introduces students to the field of child education and care. It is designed to increase understanding of the basic concepts of child development and the developmental characteristics of children from birth through age 8 or 9 years, including the infant, toddler, and preschool years. This course lays the foundation for planning activities suitable for children and setting clear expectations for young children. This class also offers an opportunity to study the developmental domains (social, emotional, cognitive/language, and physical). The course includes observations of the young child in early childhood settings.
